The Mayors Forum lauded the efforts of Vadodara mahanagar sewa sadan (VMSS) for undertaking construction of more than 17,000 housing units for 60,000 urban poor families staying in the slums in the city, its president Jatin Modi said.

"The VMSS has succeeded in getting a grant of Rs410 crore from the Centre under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM) for constructing more than 17,000 housing units for urban poor which is being carried out," Modi said.

Mayors Forum will also help municipal corporations in making them slums free cities by 2020, he said.

Modi said, "the All India Institute Of Local Self Government (AIILSG) has been anchoring the Mayors Forum and holds Mayors conferences at periodic intervals to develop communication material specially tailored to address the role of mayors and organising multi-stakeholder policy advocacy events and arrange visits of mayors to various projects in urban poverty alleviation".
