Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati’s advice to the state government to provide houses and jobs to migrants in Maharashtra is likely to snowball into a political controversy. During a BSP rally in Goregaon on Sunday, Mayawati said: “Those who have come to earn their bread and butter have not built palaces here. They are living in slums in areas where they have found employment.”

The UP CM added: “You say Mumbai is defaced. I wish to convey to the state government that these slum dwellers should be provided employment before evicting them out of Mumbai. And if you don’t have resources to provide them livelihood, I advise the government to build high rises and provide them two-room houses in those buildings in the same area so that their employment avenues are protected.”

She further said: “In slums, they do not get basic amenities like water, electricity, education or health care and the government intends to demolish them.”
