The ministers who have been dropped are secondary education minister Ranganath Misra, against whom the inquiry has been completed, and Labour Minister Badshah Singh, against whom the inquiry is pending.

With these dismissals, the total number of ministers sacked by Mayawati since April this year has gone up to six. The move is seen as the BSP supremo’s desperate attempt to prove herself as a crusader for good governance and accountability at a time when the entire opposition has been hurling corruption charges against her government.

In a statement issued here, the chief minister said that the ministers were being removed until they prove their innocence. “If they are given a clean chit in the probe, I will not hesitate in taking them back,” the chief minister said.
