The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday said that prima facie Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has to pay back all the public money spent on statues.

Mayawati has to deposit to exchequer public money used for erecting statues of herself and BSP symbol elephant in Lucknow, Noida, said the SC.

The decision came after the apex court heard a plea seeking direction to restrain Mayawati from spending public money on building statues. 

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that the court would hear the plea on April 2.
