Chairman and managing director of Ideal Road Builders (IRB) Virendra Mhaiskar on Wednesday discharged by the Special Central Bureau of Investigation Court in connection with the alleged land scam which was exposed by the slain Pune based RTI activist Satish Shetty in 2009. Along with Mhaiskar, all other officials were also discharged by the CBI court.  Mhaiskar's IRB firm on Wednesday issued a statement after the court's order. The IRB had filed the discharge application to the Special CBI Court. "The charge sheet filed against Virendra Mhaiskar, M/S AIIPL and Deepak Gadgil was 'devoid of substance' and it had no grounds to frame the charges," IRB's statement reads.

The statement further reads, "CBI Judge, Pune, on considering the entire Charge Sheet, the documents on record and the submissions made by the above parties and the CBI, passed an Order in which it was observed that no case is made out even to frame the charges under any of the sections alleged by CBI; and hence discharged all the above parties by allowing their application for discharge."

In December 2017, CBI had filed the charge sheet in which it had named Mhaiskar, Gadgil and 14 other persons. The charge sheet was filed after the complaint of cheating and forgery registered by Satish Shetty with Lonvala police station in 2009. Shetty had claimed that he had received documents under RTI to prove alleged illegal purchase of government land in Ozarde, Pimploli in Maval Tehsil of Pune district.

In the year 2010, Shetty was hacked to death in Talegaon Dabhade area by unidentified attackers and that case is with CBI.
