Police have booked one Maulana Johar Alam Mohammed on charges of cheating after he was found in possession of a fake mark list and other documents issued in the name of Pune university and bank passbook showing sums of money deposited through foreign currency exchange.
    
The suspect, according to police, worked as a religious scholar at a local mosque for six years and had visited Bangla Desh and Saudi Arabia recently.
    
He was dismissed from mosque service two years ago following complaints of misconduct, they added.
    
The university registrar has confirmed that the documents recovered from the Maulana were fabricated.
    
The Maulana allegedly duped some people with his claims of 'black magic', police said.
