Matter of shame for India, says Kejriwal to Owaisi’s ‘surrender’ jibe at BJP: Who said what on Padmaavat row

A day after the shocking Gurugram incident, where school children were targeted by anti-Padmaavat protesters, several leaders across party lines have condemned it.

Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister, Delhi: Yesterday some people pelted stones on school children in Gurugram. I couldn't sleep entire night. If our children are pelted with stones on Republic Day eve, a few km away from nation's capital, it is a matter of shame for the entire nation. I appeal to everyone. We cannot afford to remain silent anymore. They killed Muslims, burnt Dalits alive, thrashed them. Today, they have started pelting our children with stones, have started intruding into our comes. Don't remain silent now, speak up.

Asaduddin Owaisi, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Chief: This is nothing but 'pakoda' politics practiced by BJP. Prime Minister and his party have meekly surrendered before these people who are protesting. He has 56 inch chest only for Muslims.

VK Singh, Union Minister: Whenever we say something about history we must cross check it. Freedom of expression doesn’t give us any right to tamper the history. We should pacify and resolve the situation by talking to the people, who are protesting against the film. They should be asked about their concerns and objections in the film. Whenever there are clashes of interest, things will certainly be messed up.

Subramanian Swamy, BJP leader: It opens old wounds, and that is why such films should not be made. what is the historical value of it? Zero. They say it has nothing to do with history, then why are you making it? Also, why is Rahul Gandhi not taking a stand on it?

Ram Bilas Sharma, Haryana Minister: We weren’t anticipating things would turn ugly. It is a worrying incident, and I am sure there will be a solution to this whole issue today.
