Tedros has said that these countries have put a strong emphasis on testing.

"All countries have been affected, but not all countries have been affected equally. There are many countries all over the world that have shown COVID-19 can be controlled with existing tools," said Ghebreyesus.

"One of the things all these countries have in common is an emphasis on testing," he added.

The WHO chief also said that almost 70% of cases and deaths are in the top  10 countries, and half of all cases and deaths are in just four countries.

"As vaccines are rolled out, testing will continue to play a vital role," said Ghebreyesus.

"If you don’t know where the virus is, you can’t stop it. If you don’t know who has the virus, you can’t isolate them, care for them, or trace their contacts. But testing must be strategic, in support of clear public health objectives," he added.

Amidst World Health Organisation (WHO) team all geared up to investigate the origin of the Covid-19 virus, China has claimed that just because corona cases were first reported in Wuhan, does not mean the contagion originated from here.

State-run Chinese media have been carrying stories that a number of imported food products from different countries, including a consignment of fish from India, were found to have traces of the Covid-19, alleging that the virus may have entered China through foreign routes.

In an official statement, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian told a media briefing that, even though China was the first to report coronavirus, doesn’t necessarily mean China is where the virus originated.

The WHO team, which had its first meeting on October 30, is tasked with answering that question using 10 international specialists from the United States, Japan and other countries, working with counterparts in China.
