A 21-year-old nursing student hailing from Manipur allegedly committed suicide at her hostel room in Lady Hardinge Medical College, police said today.

Mercedes Khomdram, the victim, apparently hung herself due to depression after she had a fight with her boyfriend, they said.

The incident, which was reported at around 9:30 am, came to light when she failed to open the door of her hostel room in the Lady Hardinge Medical College.

"When her classmates knocked her door, she did not reply. The classmates then informed the warden and then the door was broke open. She was found hanging," a senior police official said.

The girl had left a suicide note in which she claimed that no one was responsible for her death and "she was committing suicide because she could not live without him (her boyfriend)".

The suicide note also mentioned about her last meeting with her boyfriend a few days back. "They had a fight after which he did not come to meet her. When she called him, he did not attend the call," the official said.

The official said they were trying to trace her boyfriend. Khomdram hails from Imphal.
