A home guardjawan on Sunday created a flutter at Priyanka Gandhi's poll meeting here when he allegedly tried to move towards the Congress campaigner after grappling with security officials who tried to stop him.

SPG personnel and Congress workers overpowered the jawan who did not appear to be in a "sound mental condition" and was muttering to himself as he tried to force his way through the security cordon while Priyanka was addressing a rally in Harichandpur, her third of the day.

The jawan, who was wearing uniform, was involved in a scuffle with a policeman when he tried to prevent him from moving forward.

Priyanka is campaigning for her mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in this Lok Sabha constituency.

Local leaders said that they did not want to take chances as the "erring" homeguard jawan "did not appear to be in proper condition".
