A village 'sarpanch' was today booked after he threatened to commit suicide in front of the Senior Superintendent of Police's (SSP) office here, police said.
The village head of Bahona, Harbhajan Singh, was demanding the withdrawal of a theft case registered against him, they said.
He threatened that he would set himself on fire.
On the complaint by in-charge Mehna Police Station, the police arrested the 'sarpanch' under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the IPC.
The inquiry into the theft case registered against him is underway, police said.
Interestingly, the sarpanch had sheared his beard while demanding supply of drinking water about three months ago. Later, he offered an apology to the Akal Takht Jathedar.
