The two, residents of Tejendra Vihar society, consumed pesticides but later survived.

Khema Patel and his son Hiren (30) were rushed to a nearby hospital. In their statements to Odhav police, they said that they were being constantly harassed by the moneylender because of which they decided to take the extreme step.

Odhav police said that the two were recovering in the hospital. The two blamed one Deepak  Kaki who is now in the custody of Naroda police for another offence. Kaki, officials said, is a history-sheeter and is involved in various offences.

Kaki had allegedly lent Rs2 lakh to the Patels two years back for a business they were planning to set up. However, the business plan never took off.

The Patels started paying up the money in instalments. Later, the instalments stopped after which Kaki started pressuring the Patels for money. They also alleged that Kaki had started harassing them frequently for the money because of which they thought of committing suicide.

Odhav police inspector MS Sindha said, "Kaki is in the custody of the Naroda police right now. We will be arresting him. He is involved in various other offences as well."
