A 35-year-old man from Dombivli here was arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour over a petty issue, police said today.

The incident took place near the victim's house in Ayregaon locality in Kopar, Dombivli last morning and accused Ravindra Masurkar was apprehended on the same day, Thane Police PRO, Sukhada Narkar said.

Victim Sunanda Lokhare (45) and Masurkar lived in the same chawl, Narkar said, adding that a scuffle broke out after Masurkar threw garbage at the victim's door step.

According to Lokhare's daughter, when she and her mother confronted Masurkar over his behaviour, he got annoyed and began abusing them.

He then went to his house to fetch an iron rod and hit Lokhare on the head, killing her on the spot.

A complaint was by the victim's daughter, following which the accused was arrested, added Narkar.
