Gulshan Kumar, who was arrested from south Delhi in the month of January this year for his alleged links with the Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been chargesheeted and booked for treason (waging war against the country). The charge sheet was filed recently by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad that had arrested Kumar with the help of Delhi Police, following which a fake call centre was also busted which he was using to route international calls from Pakistan and Afghanistan (allegedly of the ISI agents) to Indian Army officers in order to steal strategic defence inputs.

Following his arrest, it was also revealed that Kumar has worked with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in Afghanistan with the US Army for five years. Officers in the ATS told DNA that Kumar and ten others who were arrested have been charged for treason under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India).

They were also booked under Sections 121A (conspiring to wage war), apart from other Sections of IPC and IT Act, 2008.

"Total of 11 SIM boxes have been recovered from Kumar and his men's possession which were being used to route calls from outside India. These calls were received by the Indian Army officers and the callers, impersonating as senior officers tried to steal secretive informations relating to combat strength, positioning and other strategic moves. It was only after the Military Intelligence Unit in Kashmir got a tip off and alerted other agencies," the officer said.

Before his arrest from a rented accommodation in south Delhi's Mehrauli, Kumar had been working as the head of the IT department of a renowned coaching center in west Delhi and had been operating an illegal telephone exchange from there.

The officer added that the SIM boxes and other gadgets which were recovered from his call-center have been sent to forensics lab and the reports may divulge big names who were involved in making these calls.

"When Delhi Police and a UP ATS team had raided Kumar's residence, to their surprise, it was nothing less than a mini call center. There was a tall antenna and an illegal server at his house, which was used for making international internet calls. It was found that through this illegal server, Kumar was using techniques like call spoofing and SIM box fraud to carry out spying activities. These calls were converted to voice calls through the SIM box and connected to receivers in India, which could only see Indian telephone numbers on their phone screens," a senior ATS officer said.
