Man arrested for killing friend's wife

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his friend's wife, who resisted his sexual advances, police said on Monday.

Lahu H Gopad, a resident of Diva town, attacked the victim, Sunita Kedare (30), last night with a knife and inflicted several stab wounds, killing her on the spot, Inspector SR Nagarkar said.

Gopad, nabbed within hours of the killing, has been charged with murder, he said.

The victim was married to one Deepak Kedare, a friend of the accused, and the couple was living with their two daughters (aged 3 and 7) in Diva, a far suburb of Mumbai.

According to police sources, Sunita had an illicit relationship with another man Umesh Kadam (28), who is married and resides in the same locality as her.

Gopad knew about the relationship and used that to blackmail Sunita and sexually exploit her, they said.

However, Sunita refused to submit to Gopad's sexual advances, which angered him. The two had heated argument at Sunita's house during which Gopad stabbed her fatally, they added.
