A man was arrested for allegedly killing a tribal woman suspecting her to be practising witchcraft in Orissa's Jajpur district, police said today.
   
Mochiram Hembram accompanied by his younger brother allegedly hacked Basanti Bari to death with an axe on Friday at Gambharipatia village suspecting that witchcraft practised by her had led to his son's death recently, police said.
  
Basanti's husband Laga Bari sustained serious injuries while trying to save her wife from the clutches of Hembram, they said. The incident took place in a paddy field when was couple was harvesting paddy.
   
While Mochiram was remanded to judicial custody after being arrested, his younger brother was absconding, the police said.
