A man has been arrested for allegedly cheating a number of people and impersonating as the personal assistant of a West Bengal government minister, the police said on Saturday.

The person had collected money by promising people jobs, and he was arrested on Friday by officers of Kotwali police station, a police officer said.

He used to tell people that he was the personal assistant of North Bengal Development Minister Rabindranath Ghosh, the officer said, adding, the miscreant had collected more than Rs 1 lakh.

The man was produced at a local court today and was remanded to 14 days police custody, he said.
