According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Gaurav Dhama (21) and Preeti Chepyana.
The body of a man and woman in a decomposed state was found hanging inside a flat at Lotus Welfare society in Surajpur area of Greater Noida on Thursday. Prima facie it appears that the duo committed suicide, however post-mortem report is awaited. Police officials revealed that the man and the woman are married to different people.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Gaurav Dhama (21) and Preeti Chepyana. Both of them were found hanging with the same ceiling fan inside their rented house in Lotus Welfare society of the sector.
Police said that the bodies were first spotted on Wednesday night by a neighbour who had gone to their house to get a gas cylinder. He immediately informed Gaurav's father who lives in Baghpat village. The father reached Greater Noida late in night and conveyed the information to police.
"Following the information conveyed, a police team reached the spot and took the bodies into custody. They were sent for the post mortem, reports of which are awaited" said Vineet Jaiswal, Superintendent of Police (rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Police said that upon investigating the matter, it came to light that both of them were already married.
"Gaurav was married to one, Chanchal, around nine months ago but got divorced to her few days ago. Preeti, a native of village Suntur under Ecotech-1 area of Greater Noida, was married to Pradeep and had two children. She went missing from home on October 16th and a missing complaint in this regard was also lodged by her husband" a senior police officer said said.
The officer further said said that Gaurav had also posted pictures of his marriage certificate, divorce agreement and marriage photographs on his social media account on 16th October.
Meanwhile Gaurav's family members alleged Preeti's family members to have killed both of them after they came to know about their relationship and hanged them to make it look like suicide.
"Prima facie it appears that both of them have committed suicide, however, we are not ruling out the possibility of murder and are investigating covering all the possible angles in the case" Jaiswal added.
