Based on a complaint filed by a traffic cop, Vastrapur police arrested one Parikshit Mahendra for misbehaving with an on-duty traffic cop near Pakvan restaurant. After his arrest, cops learned that Mahendra is a habitual offender, as he and his brother were caught just last week for a similar offence.
On Thursday afternoon, Dolatsinh Sanabhai, a head constable with the traffic department spotted a Toyota Etios car parked on the main road opposite to Choice restaurant near Judges Bungalow. Since the car was obstructing the traffic, he put a wheel lock on it. Mahendra, a resident of Siddhi Vinayak apartment near Shyamal cross roads, started arguing with Dolatsinh for locking his car.
Despite the fact that Dolatsinh was in uniform and carrying a wireless set, Mahendra demanded to see the cop’s ID. But even after seeing it, he refused to accept Dolatsinh as a cop and created a scene. In compliance with the rules, Dolatsinh asked Mahendra to pay a fine of Rs200 but the latter went on to abuse the cop before others. Finally Dolatsinh had to call the control room.
During investigation, cops found that Mahendra along with his brother Swapnil had brutally attacked on-duty constable Jivabhai and home guard Siddharth Rajput last week near Relief Road. Mahendra was stopped for talking on his phone while riding the bike. After a heated exchange, both of them started thrashing the cops in public. In his complaint to Kalupur police, Jivabhai alleged that the duo even tore apart his uniform and snatched his penalty book.
