Addressing party leaders in a crucial core committee ahead of general elections, Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee constituted a committee to oversee EVM training among leaders.

“There will be attempts made to tamper the EVM to get maximum votes. Ensure at least one person who is acquainted with the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) functioning is a part of the team that oversees counting. As far as EVMs and VVPATs are concerned, I feel a committee should be set up,” said Banerjee while speaking at the core committee meeting at the Nazrul Manch.

According to the party supremo, the committee constituted will have three leaders – Dinesh Trivedi, Sougata Roy, and Partha Chatterjee.

The party district presidents will send a team from their respective districts for the training which will be held at party headquarters in Kolkata – Trinamool Bhawan in between 3 pm and 5 pm.

Mamata Banerjee further said, “BJP is saying that they will get 20-22 seats in this election. I’m sure they are planning to tamper the EVMs, but we will not let that happen. Hence these people who will be given counting duties must have knowledge about EVM and VVPATs.”

During the event, Banerjee also launched a scathing attack on the BJP.

“Government agencies are being manipulated for their personal interest. All chor and goondas have come together. RSS has brought in some NRIs in India. Not all NRIs are bad. But they have been brought in with bad intentions,” Banerjee said.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also alleged that some political parties were distributing money ahead of polls to get votes in their favour.

“I have news that some people are distributing money to get votes. Do not accept the money and report it to the police. Some leaders are calling up people and asking them how much money they need. I am aware of all this,” said Banerjee.
