In a sudden reshuffle, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee brought her favourite Chandrima Bhattacharya back into her Cabinet as the state's health minister. She had lost to the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s Tanmoy Bhattacharya in the 2016 Assembly elections.

Bhattacharya was later fielded as the TMC candidate at the South Kanthi Assembly bye-election, which she won, paving the way for her return. She will also hold the independent charge of the state's e-governance.

Ujjal Biswas, who was the State Technical Education Minister has been put in-charge of the state correctional services department, replacing Abani Mohan Joardar who had to be relieved of his portfolio following his ill health.

Asima Patra, TMC MLA from Dhanekali in Hooghly district, has been put in-charge of the state's technical education department.
