The West Bengal government on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the family of each of those killed in the political clash at Makra village in Birbhum district on October 27.

However striking a discordant note, the father of one of the deceased Shaukat Ali refused to take any compensation by the state government.

"We don't need any compensation from the state," Shaukat, father of the victim Tausif Ali, told PTI. District Magistrate P Mohangandhi earlier said, "We have received an order to give an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of those having died."

Three persons were killed and as many injured when Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters fought a gun battle at Makra when Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 CrPC was clamped in the area.
