Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hit out at the Opposition parties and called Mahagathbandhan a failed idea.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing party workers through NaMo app. Modi was interacting with booth workers from Raipur, Mysore, Damoh, Karauli–Dholpur & Agra.

Modi's remark came days after both Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav snubbed Congress party for elections in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

"Mahagathbandhan is a failed idea. These parties constantly bicker with each other but come together when there's an opportunity to form govt like we saw in Karnataka," said Modi.

Stating that similar efforts are underway in UP and MP, Modi said, "BJP workers need to make people aware of the background of these leaders."

"When you try and connect everything to elections, like unveiling the statue of Sir Chhotu Ram or Swachh Bharat Mission, it reduces the importance of the moment," Modi added.

Modi also told the workers that the conversation motivates all of them to work towards the development of the society.

Congress has claimed that elections in five states scheduled between November and December would mark the beginning of the end for the BJP rule at the Centre.

BSP supremo Mayawati has asserted that her party will rather fight elections on its own than "beg" for seats in any alliance.

Her comments assume significance as she had last week called off talks with the Congress to fight the upcoming assembly polls in three states together as it did not agree to part with as many seats for the BSP as she demanded.
