Two young men in Madhya Pradesh who had humble beginnings as milk vendors on bikes became owners of property worth crores in seven years by manufacturing and supplying adulterated milk.

Devendra Gurjar (42) and Jaiver Singh Gurjar (40), residents of Dhakpura village of Morena district, used to work in a factory that made adulterated milk for a few years and after realising its profit potential, started their own business.

In the last 15 months, an investigation by a Special Task Force revealed that the duo had a turnover of 45 crores and invested two crores to build a milk factory. STF SP Rajesh Singh Bhadoria said, "We had inputs from Gwalior that there is a steady increase in the business of making synthetic milk here. Based on this information, we sent a team of seven people for investigation. The team confirmed that the business is going on. After this, twenty teams simultaneously raided at different places. Here, it was found that hydrogen peroxide, glucose, urea, refined oil and milk powder were used for making synthetic milk." The adulterated milk and many of its by-products used to be supplied to Delhi, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan. Police found that the brothers used to buy 15 thousand litres of milk daily from the farmers and supply at least 25 thousand litres.

The STF registered a case under Section 420 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant food adulteration law and the court has remanded them in police custody. The state government has decided to impose the stringent National Security Act (NSA) on those adulterating milk.
