A bus carrying passengers from Jharia village to Lakhnadaun in the district hit a truck and overturned, leaving Sanjay Yadav (22) and Sonu Kahar (40) - both local residents - dead on the spot and injuring 27 others at NH-7, some 65 kms from district headquarters, Lakhnadaun police station inspector Shivraj Singh said.

He said the seriously injured have been rushed to the divisional headquarters, Jabalpur, for treatment adding that 15 others were being treated at a local hospital. Singh said initial investigations suggest that the bus driver, in a bid to save a motorcyclist, lost control over his vehicle and hit a truck and overturned.

He said the driver of the rashly driven truck along with the conductor fled the spot. Police have registered a case and an investigation is on, the inspector added.
