Mistry has also been appointed General Secretary of the party and made in-charge of the party in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep.

The former Sabarkantha MP is currently a Rajya Sabha MP and has been the chief whip of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha.

Besides Mistry, other appointments include secretaries of the party - they include Deepak Babariya renomination of Irshad Mirza, Rajya Sabha MP Pravin Rashtrapal and Sagar Raika.

Last but not the least, Bharuch MP Ahmed Patel was repeated as the political secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

He is likely to be given more responsibilities in policy formation and framing, especially with regards to the party's favourite National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. He has also already been given the responsibility of elections in the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh.

Senior party leader Mohan Prakash has been made AICC in-charge of Gujarat.

The developments of the day bring to fire the exclusion of Shankersinh Vaghela, former Union minister who lost the Lok Sabha elections from Godhra in 2009.

He has been out of favour of Ahmed Patel for a long time, and this might be the last nail in the coffin for the veteran.
