Minister of State for External Affairs, M. J. Akbar will pay an official visit to Mali from February 28 to March 4, and to Congo from March 5 and 6.

During his visit to Mali, Akbar will call on President Ibrahim Boubacar Ke?ta and Prime Minister Modibo Keita.

He will also co-chair the first India-Mali Joint Commission meeting along with the Foreign Minister of Mali Abdoulaye Diop. The Joint Commission will include wide ranging discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest to India and Mali.

The minister will also visit Timbuktu and present a cheque of USD 0.5 million as India?s support to Mali towards restoration of its heritage.

In Congo, Akbar will call on President Denis Sassou Nguesso and meet with Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso. Discussions will focus on issue of mutual threat to the two countries.

Akbar will also be interacting with the Indian community in both countries.
