Uttar Pradesh police has detained three people in the Lucknow rape and murder case of a 32 years old woman in Mahanlaganj area in the state. One of them is the key accsued in the case, a security guard working at the Sanjay Gandhi Post-graduate Medical Institute (SGPGI). The other detained accused worked in the same institute. The victim reportedly worked as the lab assistant in the premier institute. A mother of two children, her husband died few years earlier after prolonged illness, Zee News reported..

The woman's mutiliated body was found on Friday in a school. Reportedly, the woman was stripped and stabbed several times. There were stab wounds even on her private parts, the police said after preliminary examination of the body.

A candlelight march led by the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) was held in the city to protest against the gang-rape, brutal torture and killing of the woman. Protester Rajkumari said on Saturday that the brutality against women in the city has gone up under the Samajwadi Party's rule. "Steps are not being taken to ensure the safety of women. They are being traumatised and crushed underfoot. These (such incidents) have increased under this government (Samajwadi Party)'s rule," she said.

Akhilesh Yadav, the chief minister of the state had directed police officials to solve the case at the earliest. The Chief Minister, who expressed his displeasure to the officials, had said that the state government was very serious in solving this tragic and unfortunate incident and exposing the culprits at the earliest, an official spokesman said.

Yadav also announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the two children of the deceased besides meeting the expenditure on their education, he said.

The incident came to light on Thursday when the woman's nude body was spotted by a watchman near a primary school in Balsingh Khera village of Mohanlalganj tehsil in Lucknow.
