Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday branded the LTTE as 'killer of innocent people' and said the organisation was responsible for killing his father and former
prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi.

"LTTE is banned. It is a terrorist organisation personally responsible for killing my father and innocent people," Rahul said during 'Meet the Press' programme here.

Terming the Sri Lanka issue as 'very simple', the AICC general secretary said, "Tamil civilians are suffering because of the war taking place."

Asserting that it is India's duty to reduce sufferings of the Tamil civilians in the island nation, Gandhi said, "We are concerned about the plight of the Tamil civilians. We have to reduce their sufferings."

The UPA government had been trying to impress upon Sri Lanka about it, he added.
