Led by Lt Gen Anil Chait, general officer commanding in chief (GOC-in-C), the Central Command briefed the media about the rescue operations in Uttarakhand
Main points from today's briefing:
We have constructed a temporary bridge near Sonprayag, can now access Gaurikund.
By later today we will be able to access Harsil by road. Army and other teams have rescued at least 33192 people so far.
3,000 people are now at Harsil army base.
Several tourists and pilgrims are stuck in ravines and gorges and we are process of taking them out.
The army rescue operation has covered an area of 40,000 sq km.
We are now focusing on the children, women and wounded.
We intend to restore road link between Harsil and Uttarkashi by Saturday.
We are not God, we are sevaks. It is our job to save our people.
