Six days after Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted of rape and his security personnel was arrested for trying to help him escape; Haryana police is yet to come straight on the role of his adopted daughter, Honeypreet, in the alleged conspiracy.
Stating that there was no case registered against Honeypreet yet, Haryana police has instead issued a lookout notice against her, alongwith three other aides of the Dera Chief, including his spokesperson Aditya Insaan.
Her name cropped up during interrogation of Dera mouthpice Sach Kaun's reporter Dhiman Insaan, who was booked for sedition and was arrested by the police on Thursday. He is currently in seven-days police remand.
"She (Honeypreet) is not an accused, and we have not registered any case against her yet. But during interrogation, the accused has told police that she has some sensitive information which is critical to the case and she could leave the country soon. If she escapes, it would become difficult for us to verify those information," said IGP (Law and order), AS Chawla adding that all airports were immediately alerted.
However, police action comes six days after the verdict, which has raised several questions on its purported silence over her involvement. Seven security personnel who were part of the Z plus security of the Dera chief were arrested for sedition after police thwarted their attempt to help his escape the Court. Honeypreet had accompanied the Dera chief through the proceedings and even went with him to Rohtak in the helicopter.
The death toll in violence after the Dera case verdict on August 25 reached 40, when a 70-year-old resident of Kaithal district in Haryana died. Kapur Singh, was admitted in PGI, Chandigarh after he was shot in the leg during the mob violence on August 25. On Thursday, he was discharged by the hospital and brought in for police interrogation. His condition, however, worsened and he was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead.
