Looking for a place to unwind in Ahmedabad? New clubs promise options

Ahmedabad may be a frontrunner in terms of trade and industry, but as far as recreation goes, the city leaves much to be desired. Or at least that is what most of Ahmedabad's elite have to say.

However, there is good news for all those who want to unwind in clubs but are frustrated by the dearth of options. A couple of clubs are coming up on the outskirts of the city, which promise to fill the void. And that's not all — YMCA's city wing is upgrading its facilities, even as Rajpath Club plans an annexe.

Richa Sharma, who works with a leading corporate house, says there should be clubs at a short drive from the city, where people can drop in after office hours to relax. “There is another problem as well — when people drop in to Ahmedabad from other cities, we don't know which place to refer them to,” she complains.

Another club enthusiast, Rajiv Agarwal, agrees. “There is a need to create more amenities for kids and the youth,” he says.

Quite evidently, people's capacity to spend has gone up tremendously, while the options remain more or less the same. Many complain of a lack of nightlife in the first place. “Except films, there is little one can do in Ahmedabad. The city definitely needs more entertainment options, and in the vicinity of residential areas,” said an executive of a construction company.

Although there are two landmark clubs on SG highway, youngsters are now asking for more facilities.

As the membership of these two clubs is not easily available and is also beyond the financial reach of many, they're aspiring for more affordable options.
