Lokpal: Anna Hazare calls on Sonia Gandhi ahead of all-party meet
Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal explained to Gandhi why the prime minister should come under the ambit of the Lokpal Bill.
Team Anna’s meeting Saturday with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on the Lokpal Bill turned out to be a damp squib. While Anna Hazare told Sonia that they want a ‘comprehensive Lokpal bill’, the Congress chief said she would discuss the issue with her party. All eyes are fixed now on the all-party meeting on Sunday.
Briefing the press after the meeting with Sonia, Hazare said they informed her about six main differences between the government’s Lokpal draft and theirs. “If a half-baked bill is sent to parliament, what will the parliament discuss?”
As for the all-party meeting on Sunday, team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal told DNA, “We have tried briefing most of the political parties about the differences between our Jan Lokpal bill and government’s Lokpal bill. Now it is for them to take a stand. People of the country will also be looking at what they decide to do.”
