Prestigious Srinagar LS constituency broke the single-digit turnout jinx when it recorded 14.8 per cent turnout, more than double of 2017 bypolls percentage, amid visible signs of election boycott in the urban centers.

Udhampur seat where senior BJP leader and Minister of State in the PMO Dr Jitendra Singh is locked in a fierce contest with Congress candidate Vikramaditiya Singh and others, saw heavy voter turnout of 70 per cent.

Polling was by and large peaceful in Srinagar this time with no major untoward incident. "Polling remained peaceful and there were no reports of violence," said Shailendra Kumar, chief electoral officer, J&K.

In 2017 by polls, Srinagar LS constituency recorded a dismal turnout of seven percent and witnessed large-scale violence that left eight dead.

Separatists' boycott call had played a huge part in the 2017 in which National Conference president and three-time chief minister Farooq Abdullah defeated PDP candidate Nazir Khan by 10,766 votes.

Farooq Abdullah is seeking reelection from Srinagar. At 83, Farooq is fighting polls to redeem lost glory given his previous victory in 2017.

Meanwhile, several migrant Kashmiri Pandits could not vote as their names were found missing from the roll at the special polling stations set up for Srinagar seat in Jammu.
