Ahead of the sixth phase of LS polls in West Bengal, the Central government has deployed 770 companies of the Central armed police forces (CAPF) and state armed police (SAP) personnel.
As cases of violence were reported in West Bengal during Lok Sabha polls and presence of Left Wing Extremism, the Election Commission has ordered deployment of forces in large numbers during successive phases of polls.
Ahead of the sixth phase of LS polls in West Bengal, the Central government has deployed 770 companies of the Central armed police forces (CAPF) and state armed police (SAP) personnel.
On Sunday, eight constituencies of West Bengal -- Tamluk, Kanthigathal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura & Bishnupur -- are going for polls. Taking into consideration the sensitivity of Jungle Mahal area (Left Wing Extremism affected), previous poll violences and incidents on the eve of poll, 602 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF, BSF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, RPF, RAF) and 111 companies of State Armed Police are being deployed for election duties. Apart from that companies of local armed police forces are being deployed.
The step has been taken to instill confidence among the voters, apart from measures like route marches, long range patrols, cordon and search operations etc.
