Mamata's rally at Murshidabad, home to over 66 per cent Muslim population, started with the issue of elections during Ramzan. "You will have to bear with this (electioneering) for another month. You will have to stand in the queue in the scorching heat. We didn't want the polls to be conducted in this season, but we will abide by the Election Commission's diktat," she said.

She also attacked the Narendra Modi government over issues of demonetisation, NRC and the Pulwama attack. "Demonetisation led to the deaths of 12,000 farmers. PM Modi had claimed it would but the brakes on terror activities, but they have also gone up by 200 per cent. People of the country must ask him why so many jawans were killed in Pulwama, though there was prior intelligence of the attack. He is talking about Hindustan and Pakistan, but once the elections are over, it will be only 'Modistan'. He is trying to implement NRC in a Fascist manner, and only TMC put up a resistance," she said.

She also attacked Abhijeet Mukherjee, Congress' candidate from Jangipur and son of former President Pranab Mukherjee. "His (Abhijeet's) father had been to the RSS headquarters for an event, and thus RSS is returning favours. At Baharampur, RSS is helping Chowdhury. I have all the proof. Don't instigate me to open the Pandora's Box," she said.
