Lok Sabha Election 2019: Anantnag security up in last leg of election

Thousands of police and paramilitary soldiers have been deployed in the terrorist sensitive districts of Shopian and Pulwama to ensure peaceful polling in the third phase of elections for Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.

For the first time in the electoral history of the country that the polls in the single Lok Sabha constituency of Anantnag is being held in the three phases. 

Two sensitive districts of Pulwama and Shopian comprising of six assembly segments will go to polls in the third phase of Anantnag constituency on Monday.

Six assembly segments of Anantnag district went to polls on April 23 in which 13.61 percent electorates cast their vote.  Four assembly segments of Kulgam district went to the polls in the second phase on April 29 recording the turnout of 10.32 per cent.

Spread over four districts of South Kashmir –Anantnag, Kulgam,  Pulwama and Shopian  --Anantnag LS constituency with an electorate of 13. 97 lakh comprise of the 16 assembly segments. 

PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti is among the 18 candidates including Congress’ GA Mir and National Conference’s Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi who are trying their luck from Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.

CENTRAL FORCES

More than 200 additional companies of central armed police forces and armed police have been deployed in the twin districts for the peaceful polling. These companies are in addition to the exiting forces on ground for counter insurgency and law and order duties.
