Lockdown in Maharashtra again? CM Uddhav Thackeray to take BIG decision, says Health Minister Rajesh Tope

Amid declining coronavirus COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and Mumbai, Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Monday (July 12) held meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to hold discussions over the COVID-19 situation in the state.

After the meeting, Tope said that CM Thackeray was apprised about the prevailing coronavirus situation in the state and the effect of lockdown-like curbs in some parts of the state. The Maharashtra Health Minister also said that he has informed CM Thackeray about the problems being faced by the general public due to COVID-19 curbs in the state. 

According to Tope, since the Central government has expressed concern over the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, a final decision over imposing lockdown in the state to stop the third wave will be taken by CM Thackeray after considering all the factors.

Talking about the ongoing vaccination drive in Maharashtra, Tope noted that the state needs a minimum of three crore vaccine doses per month to inoculate the entire eligible population.

Tope said the Maharashtra government is capable of vaccinating 15 lakh people daily, but currently only two to three lakh people are being inoculated in a day because of the vaccine shortage.

“Three days ago, we got seven lakh vaccine doses. The stock will be exhausted by the end of the day (July 12). We have got more than 3.60 crore vaccine doses so far and this includes about 25 lakh doses purchased directly by the state government,” the minister said.
