Local markets in Kashmir Valley abuzz ahead of Eid-ul-Azha
Eid rush picked up from early this week, though rains played a spoilsport as the Valley witnessed widespread rains for three days from Sunday
Attracting Eid rush, local shops selling mutton, chicken, baked goods and other assorted items in Srinagar and other major towns of Kashmir valley saw a large number of customers a day before Eid-ul-Azha. Shopping outlets dealing with clothing including kids wear and footwear especially saw brisk sales from early in the morning. Roadside bazaars sprung up in most parts of the city to woo the shoppers. They have also set up stalls in Lal Chowk and adjoining areas selling all kinds of merchandise. Also, serpentine queues were witnessed at ATM outlets and banks.

The traffic department barred the entry of heavy passenger vehicles into the commercial hub of Lal Chowk as it leads to traffic jams.
No passenger vehicles were allowed to ply on Residency Road from Radio Kashmir to Hari Singh High Street on one side. The restrictions would remain in force till Eid prayers. However, the heavy rush of people on the streets lead to frequent traffic jams giving the authorities a tough time clearing the clogged roads.
