Hitting out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Tuesday said his plan to undertake 'Rath Yatra' against graft is useless and unwanted.
Joshi said Advani's main aim is to campaign for the upcoming general elections to be held in 2014.
"Advani ji's Rath Yatra (chariot procession) would be looked upon with great suspicion by the whole nation because Advani's Rath Yatra does not have a nice impression on the people. Earlier also, he had tried to divide the society and now when he is once again coming back to politics after retirement, so it is visible that his aim is not 2012 elections but 2014 elections," Joshi told mediapersons here.
"Even his party members have doubt about the motive of his Yatra. So, his Rath Yatra will be closely watched by the whole nation. The issue with which he is associating himself is already being chased by Anna Hazare, so there is no need for him to take out a separate Yatra," she added.
Lashing out at the ruling Congress Party for not taking stringent actions to tackle crippling corruption, Advani had on Monday said: "I am undertaking a 'Yatra' in which I will raise my voice against corruption and black money which is being kept in foreign banks and the failure of the federal government to bring it back to our country."
Clearing up the speculation that Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is going to be next party president, Joshi said they look upon him as the future Prime Minister of the country.
"All the workers of Congress party know that because of his (Rahul Gandhi) active participation in politics, party's graph has gone up. He is playing a very important role in the party," said Joshi.
"Sonia Gandhi is our national chief and we are looking towards him as future Prime Minister. So, it is obvious that we do not have any doubt in his capabilities," she added.
