Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs24 lakh was seized from a truck at Madhavpura circle on the Sanand-Viramgam highway on Sunday. The police have seized the truck along with 660 cartons of liquor and a mobile phone. The vehicle was registered in Haryana.

The driver of the truck, Mohansingh alias Sardar, a resident of Jahangirpura in Delhi, and the cleaner, Ashok Marvadi, have been arrested. Infamous bootlegger Kailash Raathi was believed to have been in a Maruti 800 car, which the truck had been following. The truck was allegedly headed for Saurashtra via Mehsana.

The arrests were made by a patrolling team consisting of JM Bharwad, Samat Aahir, Ghanshyam Aahir, Ramesh Parmar and Sanand police inspector RR Limbad, on the basis of a tip-off. A source said the liquor was to be used during the forthcoming elections.

Raathi has been mentioned as an absconder in the case. Two unidentified people have also been mentioned in the police complaint.
