The city police as well as the Ahmedabad rural police have intensified their patrolling, and the hunting down of clandestine distribution of liquor by bootleggers.
On Sunday, the police reportedly busted three instances of bootlegging. In all these incidents, booze was being delivered or kept aside for New Year's Eve parties.
The cops caught over eight crates of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor). The most interesting incident was uncovered by a team of local crime branch (LCB) officials. They raided a mineral water factory in Sarkhej and seized four crates of IMFL from the factory's godown.
"The accused Utpal Jani had kept the booze for New Year celebration in his factory's godown. Jani had kept the booze for himself not for trade. We hope of cracking down on many such stockists in Sarkhej, Bopal and other rural areas," said a rural police source.
On the other hand, Naroda police also arrested two people, identified as Bipin Patel, resident of Ghatlodia and Ravindra Rajput, resident of Meghaninagar. According to police the duo were caught with 52 bottles of IMFL, all premium brands.
They said that the duo was fetching these bottles for New Year parties from a village, Meghraj, on the Naroda-Dehgam road.
Similarly, the patrolling squad of Vastrapur police also caught an alleged bootlegger on a scooter who was delivering four bottles to his client.
The cops said that there are dozens of active bootleggers who deliver liquor at the clients' doorstep.
