BARASAT (West Bengal): All the seven convicts in the case of kidnap of college student Roma Jhawar in 2005 were on Saturday sentenced to life imprisonment by a district court.
       
Additional district sessions judge, Barasat, S P Chowdhury also fined each of the convicts aged between 20 and 25, including prime offender Gunjan Ghosh, Rs 3,000 or in default an additional year of rigorous imprisonment.
       
Special public prosecutor Nabakumar Ghosh later said outside the court that considering the age of the youths and that it was their first crime, the judge decided not to award capital punishment.
       
While convicting the seven yesterday, the judge acquitted two persons in the case.
       
Jhawar was abducted by Gunjan and his aides from near her Salt Lake residence on February four, 2005, for ransom of Rs 20 lakh.
       
She was released the next day.
