Lawyers in the national capital today decided to hold a candlelight march on April 9 to protest corruption in the judiciary.The office bearers of the co-ordination committee of all Bar Associations of Delhi held a meeting and passed a resolution against corruption in the judicial system."Lawyers will assemble at Patiala House District courts here on the evening of April 9 and will march to the historic India Gate to lodge their symbolic protest against the menace," spokesman of the committee Rajiv Khosla said.Government has bowed down before the judiciary and has given ample powers under the notion of "independence of judiciary" which are conflicting with the rule of law meant for the common man, a release of the lawyers' body said.

It said the lawyers would oppose the proposed rules, being framed by the High Court to debar bar associations andother bodies from making any protest by way of abstention andstrike.    "The courts cannot become extra constitutionalauthority for interfering with right to speak freely andfearlessly as enshrined in the Constitution," the releasesaid.    In its resolutions, the committee said it would fightfor the formation of state level and district level CentralVigilance Committees with powers to recommend action againsterrant judges and advocates including the elected officebearers of bar associations.
