CHENNAI: IAS officers in Tamil Nadu were given a two hour orientation on Thursday on using laptop computers provided by the state government.
  
They were given orientation in use Linux and Windows XP operating systems, since the laptop computers were loaded with them and Linux operating system was a new technology, an official press release here said.

Over 100 officers participated in the programme. The government had sanctioned laptop computers to all IAS officers through a special scheme and they could retain them even they were transfered to different posts.
  
The scheme was inaugurated by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on June 10, 2007.
