The victim had gone to the Reliance Fresh store, when one of the showroom employees tried to molest her and made racial comments on her appearance.

Immediately, she raised an alarm and informed the showroom manager, but the manager asked her not to file a complaint and insisted that the accused made a mistake.

On Sunday, the victim filed a complaint with the Netaji Nagar police station in Tollygunge and the police arrested the accused. The accused has been identified as a 19-year-old youth, Sumit Rajbhar. The police have slapped charges of molestation on the accused.

The authorities at Reliance Fresh said they have dismissed the two employees – the accused and the store manager on duty. Reliance Fresh CEO Damodar Mall also tendered an apology to the woman on social media and said that he was personally saddened by the aberration and action of the two people to their zero tolerance policy. "The offending staffer has been dismissed for gross indiscipline and breach of the code of conduct. The services of the store manager on duty have also been terminated due to dereliction of duty," he said.
