Kodarma Lok Sabha constituency profile:

Kodarma Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing a keen three-way contest among BJP, JVM (P) and CPI(ML) in the Lok Sabha election. On May 6, when Dumka votes, people will determine the relevance of Babulal Marandi in state's electoral politics.

First CM of Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi formed Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) after coming out of BJP. in 2006. He has won the seat thrice in 2004, 2006 and 2009. In 2014, Marandi contested from Dumka but failed miserably. Now he is back in his former constituency to put up a fight against BJP's Annapurna Devi Yadav and CPI(ML)'s  Raj Kumar Yadav, who is an MLA from Dhanwar.

BJP has dropped former state president and incumbent MP Ravindra Kumar Ray and have given the ticket to turncoat Annapurna Devi, who was till recently RJD state president. In fact, she was even present in a JVM-P meeting earlier in the year. But in politics, things can change very quickly and is it stands, Marandi and Annapurna have now put their friendship on the backseat to contest against each other. Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das has mocked Marandi for contesting from a general seat. Das said that Marandi is aware that tribals have understood his limitations and hence he is trying out his luck elsewhere.

Historically, BJP has won the seat six times, Congress twice. Babu Lal Marandi has won the sear three times, each time with a different symbol. Will he break that record this time? We will know on May 23.

Polling for 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand is being held in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases of polling - on April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19 - respectively. BJP won 12 out of the 14 seats in 2014, JMM got the remaining 2. Counting is on May 23.
