A four months pregnant woman had to undergo an abortion in Kerala after she was allegedly assaulted by six people, including a CPI(M)  functionary.

According to the police, six people have been arrested for assaulting this woman who has been identified as Josna Sibi, 28. The incident took place at a village in the district on 28th January. 

A scuffle had broken out between her husband and neighbours over a boundary dispute during which Thambi, a CPI(M) branch secretary of Velamcode, kicked Sibi on her stomach, police said.

A profusely bleeding Sibi was rushed to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital where she had to undergo an abortion, they added.

A complaint was lodged by her in this connection on February 2.

While one person was arrested on February 8, the others were apprehended today following an investigation.

The accused were arrested on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal trespass and wrongful restraint.
