If an alien were to land on earth today and take a glance at our social media feeds, they’d be perturbed by the embittered arguments that dominate the landscape. It would appear that various social media websites have become a battleground for all forms of ideologies, not to mention the vile abuses, trolling and the one-upmanship at all times.

However, as much we detest the vile stage social media has become, there’s no denying of its unmatched ability to bring us together in times of tragedy irrespective of our spatial, financial and political circumstances. One of those moments, when people could stop fighting for a while and band together.

Barring a few individuals who’d rather discuss crazy secessionist issues or try to blame women for environmental issues, a host of different institutions have come together to help rebuild Kerala.

Among them are various individuals who are using their unique skills to make a difference for Kerala flood victims. While one Twitter user is writing limericks for those who donate money, another one is helping donors by editing stuff. Coders are helping out design mobile-friendly websites while a lawyer is helping out with legal documents. Here's how you can help too:

Check out the list of good samaritans who are going out of their way to help people:

I am giving away some photography postcards and archival prints of my work, and will send them to you anywhere in the world, if you join me in contributing money to the Kerala CM Disaster Relief Fund. While I have put in a personal contribution, I am hoping that I can use photography to convince anyone who is considering contributing, but hasn’t made up their mind yet. So here it is. If you contribute Rs. 5000 to the Kerala CM Disaster Relief Fund, I will send you a set of postcards from a work that my friend Kashish Parpiani and I did back in 2014, Tales from Merwan’s. Tales from Merwan’s is a series of words and photographs from what were supposed to be last days of B Merwan & Co, an iconic Irani cafe and a 104-year-old Bombay institution. We had earlier made a set of 10 postcards, but more recently, put together a larger, unabridged set of 36 postcards, which I will be happy to send you. If you contribute Rs. 10,000, I will send you a signed, archival print of one of my newer photographs. Suffice to say, it will be a carefully crafted print on either Canson or Hahnemühle paper, of a photograph that I personally love. https://donation.cmdrf.kerala.gov.in/ I am hoping that enough of you contribute so that together, reach a target of at least Rs. 1,00,000. Or who knows, even more. Please send me a screenshot of your receipt and also your complete postal address with your phone number. Please allow me a month, for production of these postcards and prints. I am doing this until next week, that is, 26 August. It is important that our help reaches Kerala urgently.
