The president of the Stray Dog Free Movement, businessman Kochouseph Chittilappilly, has offered a reward of Rs 5 lakh to OM Joy, president, 'Theruvu Naaya Unmoolana Sangham', which killed many stray dogs recently, The New Indian Express reports. Chittilappilly is the Managing Director of V-Guard Industries Ltd and amusement parks chain 'Wonderla'.

According to the report, Chittilappilli said in a statement, “Efforts by humanitarians like Joy should be encouraged, when administrators who are bound to protect the people from the stray dog menace fail to do so.”

On October 2, the 'Theruvu Naaya Unmoolana Sangham' said it would kill over 100 stray dogs.

Meanwhile, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) filed a petition with the Ernakulam (Rural) District Police Chief. They asked for preventive arrest of the members of the Theruvu Naaya Unmoolana Sangham including Joy. They were arrested and released later, said the report.

This is not the first time that the businessman has offered a reward to someone. Chittilappilly had offered a housewife a reward for taking on LDF leaders for blocking a road in 2013.
